Good to know in advance!
In Bali, Hinduism is the most important religion with more than ninety percent. Worship of ancestors and belief in karma are primary here. Karma means that everything we do, think or say, comes back to us. It is about the act and the consequences of that act. When the current generation behaves well, they ensure good karma for the next generation. In Hinduism, it is believed that having a child with a mental and/or physical disability is a punishment for the current generation. It means that the ancestors have done something bad. It is important for the parents to accept these children. They then offer their apology, as it were, for the bad things their ancestors have done. This forgives the bad karma of the ancestors. Unfortunately, this does not mean that all disabled children in Bali are accepted and cared for. Many children are rejected and left to their fate and/or live in isolation. This is even more common in families who live in the higher areas of Bali, such as in the north of Bali.
Children with a disability who grow up in poverty are deprived of fair opportunities. They have no or very limited access to health care, education or the labour market. Unfortunately, they are not only hindered by their disability but also by social exclusion. Their greatest limitation is the lack of a fair chance. Our policy, vision and mission are based on this.

Vision and mission | 2021-2025
Our vision and mission is to assist (disadvantaged) children with disabilities to
an age of approximately 14 years. The foundation supports a children's rehabilitation center in the north of Bali, Lovina in the village of Kalibukbuk and is active in coordinating and/or supplying medical aids to third parties such as braces, plaster casts, wheelchairs, walking frames, crutches and the like. Coordinating and/or supplying educational aids such as educational programs, computers and other necessary learning materials is also part of this.

Vision and mission | 2021-2025
The children's rehabilitation center in Bali is called Yayasan Senyum Anak-anak Bali (Smiling Kids Bali Foundation) and has been specialized in the rehabilitation of children with a hip, knee and/or foot abnormality (clubfeet) since October 2003. The vision and mission is to increase the self-reliance of these children by providing and offering physiotherapy, various training programs, supervising and/or coordinating clubfoot operations and providing all kinds of aids.
In order to further support self-reliance, educational programs are offered and, in addition to the range of sports, games and creative activities, work experience is gained within the social workplace. Everything is aimed at ensuring the greatest possible physical independence of the children, offering help to develop their own skills and confidence with the aim of being able to provide for themselves partly or completely. Being valued and respected in their own living and residential environment plays an important role in this.
