Love, care and a lot of patience

Marino van der Starre - Initiator and manager Smiling Kids Bali

After fifteen years in real estate and experiencing a burnout, I sought peace to restore my energy and found it in northern Bali. Before that journey, I volunteered at the So Rehab Bali foundation. I connected deeply with the team helping children with disabilities regain independence with love and patience.

Following organizational changes, including a move and a new name, Smiling Kids Bali, it remains a centre fostering self-reliance for resilient children. The team's expertise and my role as manager have been a strong combination. I am grateful to do what I love, bringing me joy each day.

Cultural differences

"The boards form a valuable bridge between two continents. This was clearly visible at one of the foundation's ceremonies in Bali."

Our ambassador

'Inspiration and passion'

Elke Lale van Achterberg - World Champion Wheelchair Fencing (2017)

My name is Elke Lale van Achterberg, I was born in the millennium year 2000 and I have a huge passion for sports and in particular for fencing! At the age of eleven I ended up in a wheelchair and when I was fifteen my lower leg had to be amputated. I have not always had it easy but sports have dragged me through everything. I discovered how incredibly important it is to be able to do something you like, something that makes you really happy!!!

I hope to show through my ambassadorship that despite difficult challenges in your life you can do a lot! I hope to be an inspiration and that I can help these kids find their passion!!!

The rehabilitation team

The driven and enthusiastic team of Smiling Kids Bali takes care of the children with love. With their years of experience and specialist knowledge, they make the difference for our children.

Since 2003

Already helped more than a thousand children!

Since 2003, more than a thousand children have been treated and helped on their way. We helped them in their legs with specialist physiotherapy, providing aids and the care of operations. For a number of years, we have also offered education, sports and games programs. Within the work experience program, a number of children have their daily work, day care.

Guide a tiny step forward and help!

Thanks to the support of our donors and supporters, we can continue our work.

We welcome your support so that we can offer our children loving care, education and work experience. Only in this way can we offer them the perspective of a more independent existence.

Every donation is welcome. Many thanks from the team and the children of the children's rehabilitation and care centre
